Four years ago Karina Chikitova’s story made a lot of noise in the CIS and in the whole world. The girl was able to survive in the forests of Yakutia, where even adults cannot spent a day with all necessary supplies.
The thing is, that Karina together with her family was staying in one of the most remote villages in Yakutia, where the population is a few dozen people. On the day she disappeared, her mother lost sight of her for just a few seconds.
At first her mom wasn’t worrying. She didn’t live with her husband, and he used to take the girl with him to the neighboring village. It was clear that Karina was lost, when a few days later the husband came to his ex-wife himself. A large-scale operation had begun to rescue the girl.
The girl’s dog was missing with her. This couldn’t save the situation, because in the village near the forests of Yakutia where Karina was from, lived a lot of wild animals. The rescue team realized it might be impossible to find the girl alive, especially after coming across a bear on their way.
10 days later the dog returned home alone. The dog was really exhausted and scared. He refused to go out. The rescue team continued the operation without counting on the dog. Then a miracle happened! On the 11th day the rescuers found Karina in exhausted and frightened state. She was walking with difficulty and was taken to hospital, where she spent 20 days.
Later she told they were playing with the dog near the house, then got lost in the forest and couldn’t find the way out. The brave dog was the one to keep the girl warm during the nights and protect her from wild animals. A criminal case was opened against the parents for the negligent attitude towards the child.
Now everyone in the family is safe. Karina is making progress in the field of ballet. The 8-year-old girl doesn’t even remember the incident that happened to her 4 years ago. The important thing is that everything ended well.
