Drew Barrymore started working when she was just 11 months old in a commercial. At 7, she amazed everyone as Gertie in E.T. and later starred in many movies like Firestarter, Never Been Kissed, Ever After: A Cinderella Story, and Charlie’s Angels which she also produced.
Being part of one of the most famous families in Hollywood is no surprise – her father, grandfather, great-grandparents, and great-aunt and uncle were all actors. But as Drew reflected on her career, saying it wasn’t a movie or TV show she was most proud of.

For her, quitting drinking is one of the most important things she’s done for the Barrymore name, as her family has a history of alcohol abuse. Her grandfather, John Barrymore, a famous actor in the ’20s and ’30s, died because of drinking. Her Aunt Diana wrote about her struggles with drugs and alcohol in her book Too Much, Too Soon. Drew’s father, John Drew Barrymore, also had a history of alcoholism.
Drew says she isn’t the perfect example of health, but she wants to break the cycle of addiction in her family. She aims for a better future for her kids and their kids.
After her divorce, Drew found herself drinking more. Recognizing the signs of addiction, she decided to seek therapy and stop drinking. Her children motivated her to change. She also focused on developing The Drew Barrymore Show, which has been renewed for a fifth season.

Drew never felt pressured to follow in her family’s footsteps, but she did feel a strong connection to keep the family name alive through her work in film and TV. She credits her family’s movies with helping her understand why she feels drawn to this work.
Her dedication to her career comes from within. She has always kept her work life separate from personal issues, never letting personal problems affect her job. Drew is committed to giving her best at work and shows up fully prepared. She takes her professional responsibilities seriously and never phones it in.
