Mother bear pushed her bear cub to the girl so that she pulled the splinter out of its paw

This happened in a hot summer morning. Birds were up before everyone else and woke up the others with their beautiful singing. I decided to put on a dress and go for a walk near the lake. The water in the lake was calm, and there was a light mist over the water which covered the grass with small drops of water. There was only one path to the lake and you had to walk along the edge of the forest to get there. This had its positive sides: in hot weather branched trees protect you from the sun.

Every morning this path changes somehow: either flowers bloom, or strawberries ripen. This time I met a bear with her cubs on my way. I didn’t want to frighten them, so I sat down quietly near a tree and waited for them to leave. We weren’t really afraid of bears, as there are few of them in the forest and they became frequent visitors of our village. But anyway, we need to be very careful. That day I didn’t manage to hide from them. The mother bear was walking to my direction, pushing one of her cubs with her nose. I was a little scared. The mother pushed her cub towards me and stepped back. I needed to find out what she wanted me to do, so I began to slowly approach the cub.

The mother bear was quiet. I noticed that the cub was holding its paw. It turned out, there was a big splinter in the paw, that they couldn’t pull out. I picked up the cub and pulled out the splinter. The little thing growled, the mother bear took a step towards me, and I stepped back. In general, everything ended well. I helped the animal, and it didn’t touch me.

To be honest, I don’t really know what came to my mind at that moment. Everyone says I shouldn’t have done such a thing. But I understood they wouldn’t touch me. They needed help. Bears in our forest are not afraid of people, as there are no hunters. And because of this, they don’t touch us either.
