Estonian workers rescued a “dog” from a frozen river, not even knowing it was a wolf

They took him for a dog and still managed to save him

Three kind-hearted workers from Estonia rescued a wolf in trouble, but at the time of the rescue they were sure it was a dog.

Rando Kartsepp, Robin Sillamae and Erki Vali were dredging when they noticed something looking like a dog fighting for life in the frozen Pärnu River. The animal tried to cross the river, but fell through the ice and was in dire need of human help.

The workers immediately reacted and pulled the unfortunate “dog” ashore: they wrapped it in a towel and put it in the car to warm. The animal was very weak and had to be carried to the car. One worker noted that it weighed a lot.

The men decided to take the “dog” to the vet and while they were driving in the car, the animal peacefully slept the whole way in the car, putting its head on his lap.

Upon arrival at the veterinary clinic and after all the restorative manipulations, the doctors doubted whether it was a dog in front of them.

The animal’s fur was too stiff and it weighed more than an average dog.

The doctors even had to invite a local hunter, who dispelled all doubts and confirmed that the workers had saved not a dog, but a wolf. He also confirmed that it was a young male and he was about a year old.

The wolf was very exhausted, floundering in the frozen water. And when the men came to his aid, he did not resist, but let them save him.

The beast had to spend a couple of days in the clinic, where he was monitored and restorative procedures were performed.

All this time, the animal did not show aggression, but was grateful that they were helping him. As soon as the wolf regained consciousness, he was released back into the wild wearing a GPS tracker around his neck.
