This baby chimpanzee is a real angel!
Oklahoma City Zoo announced happy news of an endangered chimpanzee being born.
On October 1, 14-year-old Nia the chimpanzee gave birth to a cub. This is the second baby chimpanzee being born at the Research Institute. The baby weighed 4 pounds at birth and was in a great health condition. Rangers at the institute named the cub Kiazi which in Swahili means “potato”.
Right after giving birth to the cub, the zoo staff began observing the Nia’s interaction with the newborn. However, Nia didn’t show any signs of maternal care towards the baby. Therefore, OKC zoo staff took up the responsibility of taking proper care of the baby chimpanzee.
Kiazi is now the 7th chimpanzee in the zoo. Besides Kiazi there are 6 other chimpanzees in total: Nia (14), Cindy (54), Kito (35), Kirsty Nia (21) and males – Mwami and Ruben.
Kiazi is a real angel!
