Sofía Vergara talked about why she and Joe Manganiello got divorced in a new interview with a Spanish newspaper, El País. She said they split because they disagreed on having more kids. Vergara, 51, didn’t want to be an older mom, while Manganiello, 47, wanted to expand their family. They officially divorced in July after seven years of marriage.
Vergara, who has a son named Manolo from a previous marriage, prefers to be a grandmother than a mother again. She explained that she’s almost in menopause, and when her son becomes a dad, she’ll happily spend time with the baby and then give them back to her son.

In July, Vergara and Manganiello released a joint statement about their divorce, asking for privacy. Manganiello later filed for divorce, citing irreconcilable differences.
Both have moved on since then. Manganiello is dating actress Caitlin O’Connor, while Vergara has been seen on dates with orthopedic surgeon Justin Saliman. Vergara is also busy with her suncare brand, Toty, and her role in the Netflix series Griselda, where she plays the lead character, a Colombian drug cartel leader.

Talking about her character in Griselda, Vergara mentioned that empowered women are popular now, but 12 years ago when she was drawn to the story, it wasn’t the case. She liked the idea of portraying a powerful woman who had to be tough in a male-dominated world.
Griselda Blanco, the character Vergara plays, was a strong and complex woman, not perfect but interesting. Vergara highlighted how Griselda had relationships, children, friends, and employees, being both loyal and ruthless. She compared her character’s journey to that of a man, affected by power, fear, ambition, and insecurities. The Netflix series is set to premiere on January 25.
