The mystery of Michael Jackson’s famous “anti-gravity lean” has been revealed

Did you know how this trick was performed?

Many still admire the musical talents of Michael Jackson. One of his “chips” is the famous lean during the dance, which was as much as 45 degrees and contradicted all the laws of gravity. We decided to find out how the star managed to do the incredible.

In the 1988, Michael Jackson’s video clip for his song “Smooth Criminal” was released. And the singer’s fans were surprised not so much by the song itself as by the dancing movements of the celebrity. At one point, he decided to overcome the force of gravity and leaned forward by as much as 45 degrees, without bending his body or even flinching. When the passions subsided, many thought that Jackson was being held by cables.

But Michael decided to stir up interest in his person and surprise the fans even more. He demonstrated his trick live, at one of the concerts. And there were no cables around the star noticeably. But how did a simple person manage it?

The mystery of the lean was revealed later. It turned out that the trick was performed thanks to a special invention that Michael himself created in collaboration with two other creative people. The performer was fixed on the surface thanks to special shoes.

Stunt shoes looked quite ordinary and stood out only with a thick enough heel, although Michael Jackson has always been famous for his love of original shoes. But the specific shoes held a secret. Their heels had triangular indentations on the side of the sole. They were equipped with special hooks that moved out of the stage at the right moment and practically “tightly” secured the singer so that he bent over and showed the audience the wonders of anti-gravity.
By the way, in 1993, Michael and his assistant inventors received a patent for their unique shoes.

Jackson surprised fans with this trick until 1996. That year Michael came on tour to Russia and performed in the capital. He was going to demonstrate the trick once again, but something went wrong. The peg did not lock properly, the structure broke. And Jackson fell, but, fortunately, did not suffer serious injuries.

The out-of-order shoes and the retainer after the concert got into the “Hard Rock Cafe” in Moscow and remained there until the death of the performer. And then they went under the hammer at one of the auctions for a fabulous 600 thousand dollars.
Have you seen this trick? Did you know how it is performed?
