Like mother, like daughter
Designers want her to be on their catwalks, and fashion magazines talk about her all over the world. The whole world is delighted with the 20-year-old daughter of the iconic 90s supermodel.
Gerber is only in her 20s, but is already proud of herself. She’s shooting for Miu Miu and Alexander Wang, works for Marc Jacobs, Burberry, Chanel, Prada and Versace, covers for Vogue and Love. She has been offered countless opportunities for collaboration by Karl Lagerfeld himself. Her career has grown exponentially over the past year.
Despite her sudden fame, the girl does not let it overwhelm her. She still attends school, spends time with friends, focuses on her future and listens to her mom’s advice. Kaia realized she wanted to be a model still a child. And as she grew up, it was already clear she had all chances to follow in her mother’s footsteps. She has a beautiful appearance, and has also received her natural photogenicity from her mother.
At the age of 10, Donatella Versace invited Kaia to a photoshoot for the Versace children’s line. Thus she gave the world an opportunity to look at the future model. This photoshoot was a huge success. “After the shooting was over, I couldn’t get over it”, the girl tells. Kaia later signed a contract with IMG Models, a popular fashion agency, and appeared on LOVE magazine’s cover. Although she was still very young, our heroine’s sophistication and charm already caught the attention of photographers.
Last year, Kaia walked her first podium. The whole fashion world took notice of her during fashion weeks in the USA and Europe, when she surpassed many top models. Taking the podium in Milan with her mother was difficult. A new generation of models presented Versace’s SS18 collection, including Kaia Gerber. Supermodels from the 1990s were the show’s highlights. Cindy Crawford was also on the catwalk.
The girl always took an example from her mother. The daughter considers Cindy a master of her job, absorbing her knowledge and her philosophy. The advice Cindy gave her was to follow her instincts and always do what she wants. However, there’s something that the mother did not teach her daughter – how to walk on the catwalk. Gerber says with a smile: “Of course, I watch my mom while at work, but at home we don’t walk down the corridor as models.”
Cindy is an excellent mother and she takes good care of her children. “My mother is not Cindy Crawford the supermodel. She knew how to treat work and family separately. At home she is a wife and mother,” our heroine shares.
Despite her success in modeling career, studying always remains a priority for our young model. One day she confessed: “I am eager to study criminal psychology, it’s a very interesting field. I don’t know how it will end, but I like to learn new things”. Kaia will surely surprise us over and over again.
