The new film is about true love
Amber Heard, the 37-year-old actress, made a remarkable appearance at the 69th Taormina Film Festival in Italy, more than a year after her legal dispute with ex-husband Johnny Depp. She attended the event to show her support for the premiere of her film “In the Fire.” In an interview with PEOPLE, Heard expressed her excitement about the project, describing it as a captivating movie that delves into the remarkable potency of love and its ability to transcend limitations. She emphasized that the film goes beyond typical romantic clichés, offering a profound exploration of love’s overpowering influence.

At the festival premiere, Heard graced the red carpet in an elegant black dress with a waist belt. Her hair was styled in tight curls that cascaded around her shoulders, and she wore a bold red lipstick to complement her look.
In “In the Fire,” a supernatural thriller, Heard portrays a pioneering psychiatrist in 1899 Colombia, where she is summoned to treat a troubled child amid accusations that the child may be possessed by evil. As the plot unfolds, the psychiatrist finds herself entangled in a race against time to save the child from both the wrath of the community and his own inner demons.

At the premiere of “In the Fire” during the 69th Taormina Film Festival in Italy, director Conor Allyn and co-star Eduardo Noriega joined Amber Heard, making it her first public appearance promoting a film since the defamation trial initiated by Johnny Depp. While the trial resulted in a verdict largely favoring Depp, Heard did emerge victorious in one of her three defamation counterclaims. The trial officially ended on June 1, 2022.
Following recent news of the $1 million settlement Heard paid to Depp, which will be donated to five charities, she was photographed smiling while out in Madrid. Currently residing in Spain with her 2-year-old daughter Oonagh, Heard emphasized that the settlement was not an admission of guilt and that she would continue using her voice freely moving forward. She highlighted the importance of not allowing women to face abuse or financial ruin for speaking their truth.

Heard expressed her excitement about dedicating her time to her work, which has played a significant role in her healing process following her divorce. Sources close to Heard revealed that she eagerly sought a fresh start outside the U.S. and now finds solace and privacy in Spain.
Apart from “In the Fire,” Amber Heard has another project in the pipeline. She is gearing up to reprise her role as Mera in the highly anticipated film “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom,” slated for release in December. Although a trailer for the movie was unveiled at CinemaCon 2023, it remains unreleased to the general public at this time.
In December, Amber Heard made an announcement stating that she had reached a settlement and decided to drop her appeals concerning the defamation verdict in Virginia. She viewed this resolution as an opportunity to free herself from a situation she had been trying to leave for over six years, on terms that she found agreeable. Meanwhile, Johnny Depp’s first film following the trial, titled “Jeanne Du Barry,” premiered at the Cannes Film Festival and is also scheduled for screening at the Taormina Film Festival.
