Before and After: Couple Renovates Upstate Cabin Style During Quarantine

Have you ever thought of turning a dark and old cabin into a cozy house? 😍 This is a true magic! 🤩 Watch the photos in the comments 👇

During their time indoors, Yi-Mei Truxes and her husband Gray Reinhard decided to work on a big project: fixing up a cabin in upstate New York.

They first found the cabin on Airbnb about six years ago. They loved the stunning views and stayed there for a weekend with friends. Two years ago, when they wanted a retreat from their Brooklyn home, they remembered the cabin. Luckily, it was for sale.

When the pandemic hit in March 2020, they left Brooklyn and stayed in the cabin for over 100 days. During that time, they transformed the old, dark cabin into a bright, cozy space—all by themselves.

They had a long list of things to fix, from leaks to making the place look nicer. They got into a routine of working on renovations after their day jobs and on weekends.

They focused on making the cabin brighter and more modern while keeping its original charm. They sanded down the dark wood inside the cabin to reveal lighter wood underneath. They also painted the walls to brighten the space.

The kitchen was a big project. They wanted it to look modern but still fit with the cabin’s rustic style. They made concrete countertops and painted the cabinets themselves. They splurged on high-quality appliances to make the kitchen feel upscale.

They also worked on the bedrooms, adding drywall and a special finish to the walls.

Now, they’re planning more projects, like staining the outside of the cabin and turning a barn into a woodworking shop. They also want to add an outdoor shower and a treehouse for guests to enjoy.

Overall, their time in the cabin during the pandemic allowed them to turn it into their dream getaway.
