You will be speechless when you see what’s inside!
This sculptor has certainly created a truly unique masterpiece!
Ra Paulette creates amazing man-made caves in New Mexico. At his 67, he works everyday without a break. With the help of simple tools, such as a shovel, pickaxe and cart, he digs huge passages, tunnels and caves in the sandstones, which he personally designs using all his perseverance and amazing skill. As the master himself says, he gets a real pleasure from every minute of this difficult occupation. Ra Paulette says he has found his life’s work and is very happy for it. He gets a symbolic sum of money as a reward for his caves, but the man seeks neither fame, nor wealth.
He wants his creations to let people feel away from the hustle and bustle of the world and make them think about their place in this world.
Ra Paulette has no special education. He just woke up one day and realized he wanted to dig caves.
This exceptional man dug his first cave in 1987.
The sculptor didn’t expect it to become so popular. He had to close the cave for visitors, as not all necessary safety measures were met.
The walls of the caves are decorated with various ornaments by Ra Paulette himself.
The beautiful works of Ra Paulette are fascinating. It’s hard to imagine how much effort it took him to create all this. The man creates, first of all, for other people wanting to help them feel the unity with the world. The caves of Ra Paulette are made very beautifully and professionally. It seems, the man has a unique talent. As for today, Ra Paulette has already created 14 caves and is now working on the 15th one. It will be the best and the most ambitious of his works.
He has been working tirelessly on this project for ten years. This should be a special spot, where a person can feel the connection with the earth and think about his own entity.
After his first success, some people tried to hire the sculptor. But he refused, as he could not make caves otherwise than by following his own inspiration.
The film Cavedigger is about the life of this man and his creations. The film was nominated for an Oscar.
Just look how creatively this man has approached the implementation of his ideas! Analogs of Egyptian frescoes welcome the visitors “in the hallway” of this original house. And the bedroom is decorated with antique wall sculptures.
