The premiere was also held to raise funds for The Film and TV Charity. This supports people working behind the scenes on British television and films.

William, who previously served as a helicopter pilot in the Royal Air Forces, and Kate were also introduced to other members of the cast, such as Jennifer Connelly and Miles Teller. The latter had previously played the role of  the son of Tom Cruise’s co-worker’s – Gus – in the first film.

During the evening, Cruise gave Kate his hand as she walked up the stairs. However, it was not the only time Prince William and Kate would watch the long-awaited film at the premiere in London.

It’s rumored, that Tom Cruise invited Prince William and Kate Middleton to a private screening of the sequel “Top Gun”. He knew, that William liked the first film of this series, released in 1986.

Cruise played pilot Pete “Maverick” Mitchell in the blockbuster sequel 36 years after he starred in the first film in 1986. “Stylistically, it will be the same”, said the star of “Jerry Maguire” in an interview with Access Hollywood in June, 2017.
