The word aardwolf is of Afrikaans and Dutch origin meaning “earth-wolf”. They live in shrublands of East and Southern Africa. These are nocturnal animals and are quite acute. They sleep during the day in underground burrows, and go out only at night to search for food.

It’s interesting to mention, that they don’t dig the burrows themselves.

These cunning animals occupy already dug abandoned tunnels.

Aardwolf is also considered “termite-eating hyena”, as they feed on termites. This species if a part of the Hyaenidae family.

These amazing wolves are good at catching insects. On average, a single aardwolf can catch over 300,000 insects overnight. They use their long and sticky tongue as a weapon.

These adorable wolves are also very devoted and loyal creatures. They have monogamous nature, so they remain faithful to their partner for the rest of their life.

Fortunately, their population is stable, so they are not extinct.
