As always, male birds have brighter appearance than females

Males have black heads with a green tint, which also has white specks.
Females have a less spectacular appearance and duller colors. They have red heads and ear coverts.
Painted spurfowl can be found on Rajasthan Aravali mountain range. They prefer a dry environment. These birds feed on insects, flowers and berries.
Females lay 3-5 eggs and sits on them, while both parents take care of the eggs, and later the chicks.
