How to wash hair in reduced gravity
Astronaut Karen Nyberg recorded a video tutorial in which she talks about hair care in conditions of reduced gravity
“I am often asked how I wash my head in space,” says Karen.
– First I distribute hot water at the roots of the hair. The drops float away, but I try to catch them to save water.”
The woman applies an indelible shampoo. With massage movements and a comb, she distributes it along the entire length. A towel helps her cope with dirt.
Then Karen rinses her hair and gently blots it with a towel. All the same, because there are not so many of them on board.
When the hair dries, the air conditioning system will turn the evaporated moisture into drinking water. Amazing!
