The instinct of self-preservation worked unmistakably in the stressful situation
Photojournalist Bilal Yavich found himself during the destruction in Beirut at the local Al-Roum hospital, which was significantly damaged. There he photographed a nurse holding three newborns in her arms, trying to call someone who could help.
The woman herself later said that she was in the maternity ward, and at some point lost consciousness. And when she woke up, she was already holding three babies in her arms, not even realizing how it happened. But, obviously, the instinct of self-preservation worked unmistakably in the stressful situation. So, in addition to her life, the nurse was able to save three more.
The babies and their mothers were transferred to another hospital, and now their lives are not in danger.
