Shrek in real life
William Steig is the creator of the famous cartoon “Shrek”. He got the inspiration to create the character from Maurice Tillet – a professional wrestler.
The real prototype spoke 14 languages and played chess brilliantly. Despite the intimidating face and enormous strength, he was a very modest and friendly man.
He was born in 1903 in the Urals, Russia into a French family. In 1917 the family returned back to France because of the revolution.
