Dove plucked flowers from a soldier’s grave to build himself a nest

These birds are also honorable soldiers

For a long time, flowers from the tomb of the Unknown Soldier at the Australian War Memorial in Canberra were mysteriously disappearing. When the memorial workers found out who the thief was, they were greatly surprised.

Turned out, a dove was stealing the flowers to build a nest for itself. Every day, the dove would visit the same grave and pluck flowers for its nest. This interesting story was reported on the official website of the Memorial.

One of the memorial workers found the thoughtfully built nest above one of the crystal windows. He rushed to tell the others about it. No one found it offensive or disrespectful. After all, doves are also real soldiers.

There were two pigeons to receive honors for their bravery. One historian told that these birds were used as messengers.

“Whenever we talk about animals in combat, we’re talking about them doing things that humans can’t do alone”, Dr. Hampton said. “That was mostly true for situations where the connection was horrendously bad”.
