It feels great to see people helping animals in need. It’s a selfless job because animals often can’t thank people for their kindness.

But sometimes, animals find a cute way to show their gratitude to their rescuers. For example, a kangaroo shook hands with the people who saved it.

David Boyd from Canberra saw a kangaroo in Lake Burley Griffin, as reported by Daily Mail Australia. The kangaroo was stuck in the cold water and couldn’t get out.

Two brave onlookers jumped into the cold water to help the kangaroo reach safety.

They approached slowly so as not to scare the kangaroo. As they got closer and tried to catch it, the kangaroo flailed its arms, but they were able to guide it to safety.

The kangaroo was cold and frightened, but a third man helped pull it onto dry land and calm it down.

Kangaroos can be dangerous if they feel threatened, using strong kicks, sharp claws, and powerful punches.

Luckily, the kangaroo seemed to understand the men were there to help. In a heartwarming moment, it even reached out its paw as if to shake hands.

The man filming the rescue said, “Aw, he’s thanking you.”

Daily Mail Australia said the kangaroo was in shock and needed 30 minutes to recover.

But witnesses told the Courier Mail that the kangaroo eventually hopped away, unharmed.

Check out the heartwarming video below:

Thank you to the people who saved this kangaroo! They truly earned that “handshake” after saving the day.
