Here’s how IKEA’s first store looked like opened in Sweden over 60 years ago: almost nothing has changed

Everyone has something from IKEA at their houses, even if it’s just a cup. Come on! Don’t deny it, I can see you hiding the bed linen under the blanket, writes Business Insider.

IKEA is a huge international company.

This is a whole concept that changed the approach to furniture trade making it affordable, and spread the Scandinavian style all over the world. And who’s behind all of this and how did it start?

The man who changes our houses and showed that humbleness, energy, thrift and ingenuity can help you be successful.

Ingvar Kamprad from Sweden set up his business with no money. As a result, he became one of the richest people in the world, the founder of the furniture giant IKEA.

How did this guy from a Swedish village manage to furnish apartments in the cities around the world.

His Business career Kamprad started at 6 with match trade.

At ten he was cycling around the neighborhood trading Christmas toys, pencils and fish. On his 17th birthday, in 1943, his father gave him a little money as an award for his good marks at school. He got good marks despite suffering from dyslexia.

And with this money Ingvar started his company named IKEA.

The abbreviation deciphers easily: Ingvar Kamprad(the founder’s name), Elmtaryd(the farm where the founder grew up) and Agunnaryd(the founder’s hometown).

The simple and revolutionary innovation of selling furniture that the buyer himself collects at home, belongs to Kamprad.

The idea turned out successful. In the whole territory of Sweden IKEA stores opened. They were selling case furniture in compact packaging.

This concept of IKEA is the same till today: simple and affordable household goods produced and sold by one and the same company.

Kamprad had one obvious goal – make stylish and modern furniture affordable for everyone. He wanted not only to cut costs and raise revenue, but also to make people’s lives much more comfortable.

Things were going uphill: branches of he sore appeared in Norway and Denmark, and through Germany IKEA could get into the rest of Europe. Later it spread all over the world.

80 thousand people were present at the opening of IKEA store in Shanghai.

Today this is a chain of more than 300 shops in 38 countries. Moreover, during the entire activity of IKEA Kamprad has never had to take out loans or issue bonds.

And do you often go shopping at IKEA? Do you like the company?
