I was walking along the street, when I was suddenly accosted by a dirty and shabby homeless woman who asked me for money for dinner.
I took out my wallet, took ten dollars and asked her: “If I give you this money, will you go and buy wine instead of dinner?”
“No, I gave up drinking many years ago”, said the homeless woman.
“Will you go shopping instead of buying food?”, I asked.
“No, I don’t have time to waste on shopping. I have to spend all my time trying to survive.”
“Will you spend them in beauty salons?”, I asked.
“Are you crazy?!?,-said the homeless woman,-I haven’t had hair for the last 20 years!”
“Well,-I said,-I am not going to give you any money. Instead, I invite you to have dinner with my husband and me this evening.”
The homeless woman was in shock: “Wouldn’t your husband be frustrated about it? I know I’m dirty and, perhaps, I smell.”
I said: “Everything is fine. It’s important for him to see how a woman who has given up alcohol, shopping and self-care looks like…”
