An unforgettable first day of work.
Sometimes unforeseen situations happen in life, that lead to even more unforeseen consequences. This is exactly what happened to our today’s hero – a young man from the USA named Walter Karr.
Walter had recently turned 20. He had an old car, that unexpectedly broke down right the evening before the first day of his new job. He got a job as a loader in one company. In order not to disappoint the boss and get to work, the guy went there on foot, without even getting some sleep. He walked through Homewood, Alabama, at night for five hours and got to work at 4a.m.
Also, he met the police, that got curious what the young black guy was doing alone on the street in the middle of the night. After hearing his story, the officers…treated the student to coffee and gave him a lift to his workplace! And after all this, when the general public learned about this story, Walter was in for a big surprise!
The Karr family moved to Alabama, after hurricane Katrina destroyed their house. They had to start everything from a whole new page. And a few days before that, the 20-year-old guy had got a job as a loader. His car broke down and so he decided to get to work on foot, walking over 22km! Having heard his story, police officers treated him to coffee and gave a lift to his work.
And the woman, to whom he dragged furniture on his first working day, opened a crowdfunding gathering. With the help of kind-hearted Americans moved by the story of the young man, they managed to collect more than thirty thousand dollars! And what’s the most important – the head of the company, having learned about the passion of his employee, gave him a new car, so that it’s more comfortable for him to get to work. That’s what honesty and willingness to work means!
Local journalists found Walter and even interviewed him. Karr turned out to be a humble, honest and fun guy. He needs the job to be able to pay for his college. After graduating, the guy wants to join the army. He is a patriot and wants to serve the motherland. Then Walter plans to become a doctor. Well, let’s wish the young worker good luck! Now he definitely is not in need of money!
