Eartha Kitt

Eartha replaced Julie Newmar in the series. She became the first dark-skinned Catwoman. Kitt was a famous musical artist and singer.
Director Orson Welles approved Earth Kitt in the role, as he believed there was no more beautiful woman in the world. And, by the way, the audience agreed with him. She was the one to be named sexy kitten for her charming “purring” voice.
But after filming three episodes, Eartha was asked to leave the project. The intolerant society of the 60s America couldn’t accept, how white Batman was having affairs with a dark-skinned woman.
Eartha played in 63 films, the last of which was released in 2007. A year later, the 81-year-old actress passed away.
Michelle Pfeiffer
Batman Returns, 1992

Amid the hype around Catwoman, film critic Bill Muller offered to take away her Oscar for best lead actress in the movie Monster’s Ball, saying that Berry received the award by mistake.
