Conchita Wurst, a.k.a. 29-year-old Austrian pop singer Thomas Neuwirth, appeared on TV in 2011. According to the musician, this image was created in order to help people think about xenophobia and tolerance. In 2014, Conchita became the winner of the music competition and became famous all over the world.
In April of this year, Wurst publicly announced that she was infected with HIV. She decided to confess after one of her boyfriends wanted to blackmail her by publicly disclosing this information. “It doesn’t really matter to the public, but a former friend threatens me to release personal information, and I don’t give anyone the right to blackmail me and so influence my life,” the singer wrote on her microblog.
Recently, Wurst appeared at a charity event dedicated to raising funds to fight HIV infection in a completely new image. Now the singer is a short-haired blonde, but still with a beard. Conchita has a huge tattoo on her back. She planned to change her image last year, but all this time she was looking for suitable options.
“In the image of the woman with which I won the Eurovision Song Contest, I have already achieved everything. And I’m not sharing my way with her anymore. I’m thinking about the emergence of a completely new creative personality, so I have to kill Conchita Wurst. Now I’m looking for options that will suit me best. That’s why Tom rebelled against Conchita,” Tom Neuwirth said in an interview with Die Welt newspaper.
However, Tom did not kill Conchita completely. He still performs under this name and maintains two accounts on the network at once – one as Wurst, and the other as himself.
