Elephants are rightfully considered one of the smartest animals on our planet. There are also strong family ties between mother and baby, their connection is no weaker than that of people. The story took place in the Indian district of Chetra. The clumsy elephant stumbled and fell into a deep hole left from an abandoned well. The elephant did not abandon her cub in trouble. She had been trying to free him for 11 hours. All this time the elephant was holding out her trunk to the baby stuck in the pit. Almost all the attempts to pull out the cub were unsuccessful. Under the weight of her body, the edges of the pit only collapsed more, covering the baby elephant with mud.
She kept trying from 9 pm to 8 am. And most likely the baby elephant would have passed away if the residents of the neighboring village had not come to the rescue. People rushed to help when they heard the cries of elephants.
At the same time, they had to restrain the elephant, who was eager to take part in the rescue operation, since the mother elephant could decide that they were threatening her child. While some were distracting the elephant from the baby elephant, they managed to dig a passage on one side so that it was easier to save the baby elephant. A local resident who filmed this story and helped save the baby elephant, told:
We cut down some banana tree trunks and threw them next to the pit. Because of this, the mother elephant moved away for a while. During this time, we removed all the sand from the pit, which prevented the elephant from pulling out her baby.
In the end, the elephant was able to get closer to her cub, she wrapped her trunk around him and threw him out of the pit. Leaning against each other, they continued on their way.
