The relationship between the “Royal Magnificent Four”
Fans of the British Royal Family noticed Kate Middleton’s cold gaze directed at Meghan Markle when they reunited to accept flowers and chat with the people at Windsor Castle. Body language experts decided to analyze the tense moment.
Greeting the crowds mourning the death of Queen Elizabeth II, Kate Middleton seemed to avoid eye contact with Meghan Markle.
The reunion of the “Magnificent Four”
On September 10, the Prince and Princess of Wales, as well as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle gathered together on the grounds of Windsor Castle to meet with the people grieving for Elizabeth II, who passed away on September 8 at the age of 96. The “Magnificent Four” made their first public appearance in full after Commonwealth Day on March 9, 2020.
Fans of the British Royal Family were delighted with the long-awaited reunion, and some saw in their appearance a glimmer of hope for the restoration of the destroyed relationship, despite the fact that the brothers and their spouses had little contact with each other.
And although the four tried to show unity by greeting the mourners, body language expert Judy James told MailOnline that there were “no signs of affection” between the couples.
When they appeared before the people, the brothers were standing next to each other, and their wives were on either side of them. William and Harry seemed to exchange a few words, while Kate and Meghan stared straight ahead. At times it seemed that Kate Middleton was at some distance from the rest of the Royal Family.
Kate Middleton’s Cold Gaze
Body language expert Katya Loiselle analyzed in detail the moment when Kate Middleton “seemed to be looking through Meghan”. She cast a cold glance in the direction of the Duchess of Sussex, then smiled and waved to the crowd.
“Meghan was completely different from the former and confident wife of Prince Harry that we know. She felt uncomfortable during this meeting, which is not surprising given the recent criticism she has faced,” Loiselle told 7News Australia.
While Prince William “kept in touch” with Harry and Meghan, Kate seemed “reluctant to interact with them.” And what is most remarkable: the Princess of Wales did not look Markle in the eyes.
The couples were only together for a while at the beginning and at the end of their public appearance. During this gloomy event, which is supposed to have lasted about 30 minutes, they even split up to greet the audience and talk to people separately.
“Meghan repeatedly looked at Kate Middleton, but the look of the latter did not reciprocate. Kate, rather, looked through her, which indicates a hidden tension between them,” the expert added. This, according to Katya Loiselle, made Meghan feel insecure and uncomfortable.
“Meghan clearly looked confused and insecure. She took a step to the side, turned away from Kate and slightly tilted her head. Markle’s nonverbal communication suggests that she may have felt out of place and didn’t know where to put herself. At this time, Prince Harry stood calmly behind her, then he gently touched her hand and began to lead her, demonstrating protection and support,” says Loiselle. The tense moment was captured on camera.
Meghan Markle’s Fear
Another body language expert, Dr. Lillian Glass, explains that Markle’s reserved behavior could have been caused by fear, since the star of the TV series “Suits” was booed the last time she was in the UK for the celebration of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in June.
“We usually see Meghan with a smile on her face, regardless of whether it is appropriate or not. But this time she looked more sincere and humble. There is no doubt that she felt fear, as she held Harry’s hand as they walked together. She looked serious and even stepped back when Harry was talking to someone. She usually stands in front and in the center, but the fact that she stayed behind speaks to her fear,” Glass noted in an interview with Page Six.
Many social media users noticed that the Prince and Princess of Wales kept their distance from one another, unlike Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
“Kate and William rarely touch one another in public, and they hold hands only when they are out of the public eye. This is partly due to traditions. As future King and Queen, they should be perceived as two separate monarchs, and not just as a couple tied by marriage, like Harry and Meghan. It’s also quite practical, because constantly separating to shake hands with other people would be uncomfortable,” says body language expert Judy James.
In fact, all body language experts agree that Kate Middleton has not reconciled with Markle. “Although Prince William was affable, he still kept his distance from Meghan and did not show his trademark Hollywood smile. As for Kate, she didn’t even glance at Meghan or in her direction. She was sincere, she just didn’t want to smile at Meghan. There was a sense of sadness and desperation in Markle’s eyes, when she repeatedly tried to catch Kate’s eye. But the Princess of Wales was not going to do that,” added Glass.
