The scarlet rump perfectly complements the all-black suit

Amazing and eye-catching species of birds

It looks like this bird is wearing a midnight black suit, except for one part – his rump. The latter is flame red.

Lemon-rumped tanager is a bird (subspecies flammigerus) with lemony yellow lower back, rump, and upper tail coverts (subspecies icteronotus) or warmer yellow to orange, red, or scarlet (Ramphocelus flammigerus).

Tanagers with less scarlet are considered hybrids or intergrade species.

This species can be found in extreme western Ecuador, Colombia, and western Panama at low to moderate elevations.

Flame-rumped tanagers prefer main forest and its borders, second growth, overgrown areas, gardens, and parks as their habitats. Like other tanager species, flame-tanager eats fruits, invertebrates and seeds.

The reproduction method of this species is still unclear.

However, it is known, that these birds build nests and lay there two pairs of eggs with black, brown, or lilac markings. Two broods are grown each season.
