Margaux and Walter Kent, along with their sons, used to live in an old house in Philadelphia’s Fishtown. They renovated the house, especially the kitchen. They recently moved to the countryside but still use the house as a showroom for their business, Peg and Awl.

The kitchen has original wide-plank pine floors. They opened up the kitchen and dining room by removing walls and added a concrete and steel truss for support.

Walter made the kitchen cabinets from old barn beams, and they have a knife rack and an apothecary cabinet on the wall.

They had to reinforce the floor joists and add radiant heating before laying the slate floor. It was a lot of work, but they did it with patience and some creative solutions.
