We all need a friend like Maverick
Charlie the dog is 11 years old and by canine standards he is already old. And when he developed glaucoma a few years ago, he had to have both eyes removed. Charlie gradually adapted to the “dark” lifestyle, but became much less mobile and less playful. However, lately Charlie has become very active, because he has got not only a new friend, but also a kind of guide dog.
Charlie’s owners Chelsea Steve and her husband recently brought home a puppy named Maverick of the same breed as Charlie. The two dogs quickly became friends, and the inexhaustible enthusiasm and activity of the puppy “infected” Charlie.
“Charlie has undoubtedly become more active after the appearance of Maverick. Usually, when we buy him toys, he hardly plays with them, but with Maverick they are now constantly playing with each other,” says Chelsea.
Maverick is only a few months old, but he already seems to understand that his older friend has some limitations and he helps him overcome them.
“He understood perfectly well that Charlie is special. When he brings him a toy, he sees that Charlie does not immediately find it. And when they go for a walk, Maverick likes to hold Charlie by the leash and guide him.”
Maverick also likes to sleep in an embrace with Charlie, and most often he just sits next to him. He seems to understand that it is very important for the old dog to feel that he is not alone.
“It’s amazing. They made such great friends. Charlie is already old and we thought that most likely he would leave us soon. But with the arrival of Maverick, his vital energy seemed to turn on again.”
