“Pet Food Prices Going Up”: Would people give up on their pets if food became too pricey?

Most owners claim they will keep their pets whatever it takes

Americans have recently expressed their opinions on pet food prices rising. Some are even considering giving up on their pets if they cannot afford proper food for them.

An Austin-based student named Isabella told Fox News that she had already experienced something like that. And if total costs were to become unmanageable, like up to $400, she would definitely have to reconsider owning a dog.

“I have recently switched my dog to a different brand of pet food. I buy the food from Chewy, but even their prices have gone up!”, mentioned Isabella.

Another student from Austin, Phil, said that he had also noticed the high prices of pet food in the markets, but he will never give up on his pet, no matter what.

According to recent data from the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis, the prices of pet foods and treats in America inflated 15.1% year over year in January.

Victoria from Austin said she would consider giving up her cat if pet food and treats became too expensive. “If it’s $50 or $100 a month on food, it would be pretty high. As long as it’s not outrageous, I think I’m okay paying a little bit more as far as food goes.”

Inflation increased 0.5% from December to January, which makes 6.4% increase year-on-year, as reported by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Still, most owners claim they will keep their pets whatever it takes.
